The Atlantic Beach City Commission decided in January 2018 to pursue LEED for Cities certification. This endeavor specifically aligns with the City Commission’s Environmental Stewardship priority.
LEED for Cities is a pilot program of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC); which has a vision that buildings and communities will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life in a generation.
As a LEED for Cities program participant, the City of Atlantic Beach will set quality-of-life goals and implement strategies and plans to maintain and support these goals. The city will then measure and track progress toward those goals.
As of May 2018, three cities had achieved LEED this prestigious designation. Atlantic Beach has an opportunity to become the first Florida city and smallest United States city to receive the designation.
The City of Atlantic Beach’s efforts to become LEED certified is being spearheaded by the Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) and Planning/Community Development Department.
