- Where does the water come from and how is consumption tracked? The Splash Pad is tied to the City’s water access at Donner Park. The Splash Pad uses a recirculating system in which the water is run through a filtration and disinfection system before returning to the Splash Pad. As part of routine maintenance, water may be discharged from the system to ensure the highest level of sanitation in compliance with the Florida Department of Health’s requirements. This in addition to natural evaporation will result in new potable water being pumped to the Splash Pad system. The City is evaluating all of its options for a way to track the specific Splash Pad water consumption.
- Is the Splash Pad water safe? Yes, the Splash Pad water is chlorinated and closely monitored to keep disinfection rates within the requirements set by the Florida Department of Health. The water is recirculated and goes through a filtration and UV light disinfection system. The UV systems kill 99.9% of germs. Staff tests the water daily. City of Atlantic Beach staff monitors/tests chemical levels, backflow, etc.
