Help Keep the Right-of-Way Safe and Clear

Home Posted on September 03, 2025

The City of Atlantic Beach is reaching out to educate the community before enforcing regulations related to items placed in the public right-of-way. While we understand residents may place objects in these areas with good intentions — such as improving curb appeal or managing traffic — these items can create safety hazards and interfere with city services.

What is the Public Right-of-Way?

The public right-of-way includes sidewalks, utility strips, and the area between your property line and the street — spaces maintained by the City for public use. These areas must remain clear for safe pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle movement, and to allow City crews to perform essential maintenance.

What’s Not Allowed?

According to City Code Section 19-1, placing objects in the right-of-way is prohibited. This includes:

  • Rocks or boulders
  • Posts or bollards
  • Tree stumps
  • Fencing
  • Any other physical barriers

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping these areas safe and accessible for everyone. Questions? Email info@coab.us or call (904) 247-5804.
